He remarked, "It's evident that Russia is rushing to restart conversations as soon as it learns of Tomahawks." This statement addressed recent comments about supplying long-range missiles to the Ukrainian military.

Political Developments and International Reactions

An ex- US state department official, a foreign policy expert, observed, "Putin is trying to disrupt the momentum toward increased pressure on the Kremlin." He added, "We'll see on Friday, but the chances of achieving a truce by pressuring Russia to get serious appear to have decreased."

This situation came after the US president had recently been strengthening his language toward Moscow until Thursday's call with Putin, which the Russian government characterized as "extremely frank and constructive."

EU Fuel Restrictions and Market Impact

EU authorities have established a requirement for fuel suppliers into the European Union to prove their products are not sourced from Russian crude, as stated in a document published on Thursday. This measure is included in the EU's forthcoming ban on purchases of refined products processed from Russian crude, which forms part of its latest sanctions package against Russia over its military actions in the region.

Financial experts observed that investment activity appeared to be considering the possible end of Indian purchases of Russian oil. Some oil processors in India are preparing to cut Russian oil imports, with expectations of a phased decrease, as reported by sources familiar with the matter.

"This is a positive development for the crude oil price as it would remove a major buyer of Russian oil," commented Tony Sycamore, noting that crude values were steady on the trading day.

Security Situation and Energy Attacks

A massive Russian unmanned aircraft and rocket assault hit energy infrastructure in Ukraine's eastern regions on Thursday, causing disruptions in eight regions. Ukrainian officials stated that Russian forces launched numerous of unmanned vehicles and many of projectiles, along with glide bombs.

"During this fall, the Russian forces use daily opportunities to strike at our energy infrastructure," declared Ukraine's president, adding that strikes impacted the regions of Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, northeastern Ukraine and Vinnytsia.

This initiative, dubbed the "European drone defence initiative," is projected to begin working initially by the end of 2026 and be fully functioning by the end of 2027. EU authorities aims to secure the support of EU leaders at a summit in the coming days.
