Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle misconduct within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans watch the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected plot developments."
Show History
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of series six drew the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
