Fans Demand Arrest of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the pop star are calling for that a man who leaped a barricade and seized the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers proceeded down a event pathway flanked by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being taken in", though court documents showed that he was set to be present on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram account features clips of him disrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last year.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a punishable act," stated an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user questioned.
Followers Express Concern Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Several followers accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
A number of fans also criticised security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some demanded online networks to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande looked startled when she was touched by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Numerous of fans had congregated in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore mall, including several who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be launched on 21 November, is the second of a two-film version of the well-known stage show Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely friendship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The musical itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and received 10 award recognitions, earning a pair for excellent wardrobe and production design.
