A Heap of Anime Updates Dropped During the Holidays

The Christmas holidays provide a wealth of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than checking the updates: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on festive fare, and using deep breathing to avoid arguing with relatives. I hope you succeeded in do all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy developments surfaced over the holidays, and should you missed a few, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (By 2027)

Truly the biggest piece of news, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt further production. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which might be a good sign. But, the main art for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, nowadays, they could be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been airing for some time, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will probably air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Second Season

Right after the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has yet to be revealed.
